Dear Darlin’

Posted in Uncategorized on November 17, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

The title is extra fitting today. A few days ago when I was clearing out looking for some of my old shoes, I came across this old darling of mine.

baggy 002

My bag. My precious, effing back. I originally got this bag when I was what, twelwe? To have to school, but when music and concerts starting becoming a major interest, it was turned into my concertbag instead. He was a part of the first few Wig Wam shows I was at, and he was present at my first Lordi gig ever. And trust me, he’s seen many more ever since. I can’t recall when was the last time he was out, but I know it’s been a couple of years.

The bag features a lot of good old memories – we have the big The Ark patch at the top, together with a smaller pin right above the KISS patch. The Ark was a band I followed a lot during 2007 and 2008, but eventually stopped. I didn’t stop listen to them, but the travelling faded. Still a band I hold close to heart, and watching their last show three years ago was heartbreaking. I can’t even understand it’s been three years since they called it quits.

Let’s move on. I guess you all have spotted the golden Panzer Battalion patch. If I’m not mistaken, I bought that patch at Monsters of Mora 2007, one of the best shows in my life. Not because the shows was particularly good, but because I had some amazing company. I originally went alone to the show, but thanks to the awesome company of Pea, Kammo and the rest of the gang, it became epic. I even have old pictures of the banner we made.

Two HammerFall patches. I love HammerFall. I’m not sure what to add to that. The shiny blank metal thing is actually a HammerFall pin, and the patch on the side is a Glory to the Brave patch. Two KISS Patches, because again, I was a very very VERY big fan of KISS back in the days. Just as with The Ark – it faded, although a LOT more than The Ark ever did.

Norwegian flag represents Wig Wam, together with “I like Milk” button. It was a campaign the singer had – about drinking more milk because it’s good for you or something. And everyone was given these pins whoever wanted them. I have a whole bunch here at home.

One Lordi pin. And THIS pin, this GODDAMN PIN is the reason I’ve been looking for this bag for so many years. Back in the days, when the webshop was run by Monstereo, I had planned to buy an additional one of these pins and make a necklace of it. But you know, they sold out the pin and everything, so I only have this one left. I’m still, faintly, planning to turn it into a necklace, but right now, I’m too nostalgic to even touch it. But I guess it’s one of the more rare pieces in my Lordi collection to date, in all honest.

The shiny keyring is also a Lordikeyring. The flash reflects pretty badly in it, sadly.

baggy 020

But. There is one last part of this bag I haven’t told you about yet, and I assume it might even be the part you are the most interested in. This part.

Autographs

The autographs. From the top to the bottom; In faint, gold pencil ink is Oscar Dronjak from HammerFall, signed at Gröna Lund in 2007.  In the middle, we find Teeny from Wig Wam. When this was signed, I have no idea. Last, but not least, is Kicken from The Poodles. I suspect this was signed in Germany in 2007, but I’m not gonna make a promise about it.

I had a plan back in the day to have it signed by all my favorite members, but obviously it never really happened more than with these three. This part is the most sentimental one for me, since it, just as with my Kita shirt, reminds me a lot about the fangirl days. When you were, not like Justin Biebers crazy fans, but just fangirls. When you’d meet the band all the time and wait for them and you’d sit and talk to people about how great Oscar’s hair was or just you know. Fangirl. I still from time to time wait for bands after shows, it depends a LOT on my company, and I still queue at times, so I haven’t exactly lost everything of it. But still. There’s something so special about that time period you know, when all that mattered where these people. I really hope I find my way back soon.

This bag is one of my most precious possessions, and I’m glad it’s made it up to surface again. I’m never letting go of it again, but it’s probably never gonna see a concert again either. The model isn’t exactly made for it, and that’s the major reason I stopped using it. But still. Thanks baggy, for all the good memories.

Getter Jaani – Rockerfeller Street

Posted in Music, Uncategorized on November 16, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Alright, so here’s something different for you.

As some of you may know, my heart doesn’t belong fully to metal. There’s also a big part of it what belongs to popmusic, amongst other things, and one of these artists are Getter Jaani. Getter Jaani is an estonian singer who’s probably most famous for her appearance in Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with her song “Rockerfeller Street” which she got a well-deserved place with.

Anyway, after her mesmerizing appearance on the show I asked my estonian friend Argo to pick up her album for me, which he did in a heartbeat. He’s amazing that way. He also included an autograph by her. Thanks Argo, truly! And the album? Pure estonian bliss.

rockerfeller

So, the album is called “Rockerfeller Street” and is filled with twelwe tracks perfect dancemusic. It opens up with her big ESC hit “Rockerfeller Street” and just continues down the block with cheerful tones and nice beats, except from the one slow and sweet moment in the middle. Pretty much everything I’d ask of a dancerecord. All songs but three (“Rockerfeller Street”x2 and “Robot”) are also sung in estonian, which adds an amazing charm to it. I have difficulties choosing ONE favorite, I’m stuck between “Grammofon” and “Teater”.

This is one of the few records, alongside Olly Murs’ “Right Place, Right Time” that I’ve found myself returning to more often than not, much to my own surprise. So, if there is anyone out there who reads this that do like some quality dance music, check out Getter Jaani! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Doof 101

Posted in Phineas&Ferb, Uncategorized on November 15, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

SPOILERALERT.

Okay, so for the first time in forever I watched Disney Channel, and a new Phineas&Ferb episode! Main reason I haven’t watched it in a while is because our cable screws up CONSTANTLY leaving it no point to even try, since it’s mostly out of signal. But the problem has finally been resolved! The episode that was aired this morning was “Doof 101“.

Much to my happiness, it was a Vanessa based episode (all of you people should know by now that Vanessa is my favorite character) and the episode was about the first day of school for the autumn. Dr D had gotten convicted in court and decided to do some society duty and thus became Vanessa’s new teacher in science class, much to her dismay. While trying to explain about DNA’s to the rest of the class, he managed to turn her exboyrfriend Johnny into a dinosaur/gorilla/human morph.

Johnny took of with Vanessa – much the way Quasimodo did with Esmeralda in the Hunchback of Notre Dame, climbed up a belltower until Doof managed to get the anti-poison to Vanessa and she fixed the whole thing. The sidestory to this was about three insects trying to get to know the humans, but they eventually got crushed by Dr D. Phineas&Ferb themselves only appeard 2-3 seconds for the whole episode.

First of all, I was surprised to see so little involvement by Phineas and Ferb themselves, althought I absolutely loved the Vanessa special. However, I must admit it felt weird. I didn’t even know what it was that felt weird until Doofenshmirtz said the very last line of the episode:

Don’t worry Vanessa – it’s 261 days until summer“.

DAMN. This was an episode based in school. But P&F is a series based in summer. JESUS CHRIST I got so mindfucked! I thought it felt weird when I saw “Danville High School” but I didn’t even think about it until Doof said that one line. Damn, I’m telling you. That was weird.

But in a way it’s fun, since a lot of people have asked Marsh and Povenmire to make an episode featuring them in school. And there it was.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this episode a lot, but I don’t think it’s the best ever.

Day 29 – A song from your childhood

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on November 14, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Well this one was easy! Not only is this a song from my childhood, but it’s also my favorite song from my childhood.

A La La La Long” by swedish musician/cookiemonster Papa Rooster. I’m gonna tell you, I had no idea when I was little that he was a giant cookiemonster, but it does make sense. I started at this, and later end up on Lordi! It starts early, you know.

What I love about the song is the beat. It’s a catchy song with lyrics that sticks to you, pretty typical early 2000’s (somewhat 90’s) popmusic, and believe it or not, I still think that 90’s pop is one of the best things out there. Of course, nothing beats the 80’s in anything, the pop in the 90’s were good.

Anyway, this song was played A LOT at home when I was young, and I remember how we’d even make up stupid danceroutines to the song as well, haha. Still to this day I do actually listen to it, or well, ALL my “Absolute Kidz” records, since the once that I have really have some good material on them. So there you have it people, this is my chilldhood served on a plate.

Iowa

Posted in Uncategorized on November 13, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Ahh! The early christmas continues! However, this is the last delivery in some time, so all the fun is over now! Today I recieved the last missing piece in my SlipKnot CD collection: “Iowa”! Ahh. It was good to see it.

iowaa 008

Got the 10th Anniversary version, the fat one. It’s pretty much the size of “The Grey Chapter” and “All Hope is Gone” together. The bigger the better, or what was it they said? Haha.

I’m sorry for the uninspired entries latley – I’ve been busy with my globalization and audio engineerings exams, and they pretty much eat up all my time nowadays. Gladly, the AE one is tomorrow, and I plan to wrap up the last globalization one this weekend, and everything should be back to business again this weekend!

In the meantime; dear followers, tell me: Which is your favorite SlipKnot record?

Vermillion

Posted in Uncategorized on November 12, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Well guys, what can I say. I think my twelwe days of Christmas started a bit early! Yesterday I got the fanbox delievered, after QUITE some wait, and today these pretties fell down my postbox:

vermilli 017

Finally! This has been loooong overdue getting these records home. I’m just missing “Iowa”, but apart from that, we’re soon complete! God, there is nothing more on this earth I love more than getting new CD’s. However, I’m starting to feel somewhat concerned my CDrack is gonna run out of space soon. And I don’t have anymore room in my room for yet another CD stack so… I guess we’ll see how it goes with that, haha! I guess I’ll just pile them on top of each other or so.

Hell’s Kitchen Box – Lordi

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized with tags on November 11, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

SO PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE.

FIRST OF ALL – SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT

After months of waiting (I preordered this thing in September) and some more waiting, and trying, and hoping, and lost patience and a few angermanagements lessons later, the box is finally here! AT LAST! See, I was working this morning at a store, and on the way home I got the text message I could pick it up at the post office, so naturally that’s the first things I do.

scareforce 015

God, the anticipation when opening this was beyond what anyone could believe. I had been a little anxious about this one, since it had only said “Scare Force One CD” on the order, and not the fanbox. But it was all in vain, obviously, as this couldn’t possibly be anything but the fanbox!

scareforce 032

THIS WAS THE CONTENT PEOPLE. And yes – When I saw that the limited edition of “Zombilation” was available as well I could not miss the oppurtunity! So, that leaves only Scarchives being the missing piece in my collection.

So.. the fanbox. Where do I begin! First of all, the box is fucking amazing. It’s basically a lunchbox, with all these details on all the sides! The box alone is so beautiful I might cry. Maybe it’s the long waiting and all, but damn.

But then… when opening the box… The first thing I came across was the sheet with Hella’c Cupcakes. YUM! I’m going to try to bake them as soon as possible, and then I’ll tell you what I thought.

scareforce 054

The second thing was the apron. And MY GOD PEOPLES. This apron is so much more beautiful in real life than it was on the picture! Love it. It will sure as hell be used A LOT!

Apron

The next thing in the box was the CD. And you know, I was a little bummed it being a digipack, since I prefer jewelcase above anything, BUT. This one intrigued me. It wasn’t made out of the papery thing other digipacks are made it, but rather some hard plastics. I’ve been sitting for hours just caressing it and being fascinated with it. Way to go!

merlordi 004

Beneath the CD awaited the poster. It was perhaps a little bit smaller than I had expected it to be, HOWEVER – I did not see the double side thing coming! Really like the fact we got like two posters in one.

merlordi 021 merlordi 022

And after that, one of the thing I was most excited for, was the illustrated lyrics! It’s basically a comic book that illustrates all the lyrics as their own stories. I sat for a good hour or so going through the whole thing, and I LOVED IT! So worth it.

merlordi 024 merlordi 025

The last thing in the box is the certificate of Authencity, which much to my joy turned out to be not just aplain certificate, but also more like a postcard of Lordi. Nice.

merlordi 027merlordi 026

Overall, I’m beyond satisfied with this box. I do really think we got a lot of good things for that little money, and I’ve even found myself going back and forth the whole day toying with it.

scareforce 069

My Lordishelf feels somewhat more complete now. Ahh.

Welcome home, Hell’s Kitchen Box.

Day 28 – A song that makes you feel inspired and creative

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on November 10, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

I walked around in my house for a bit and thought abuot this and came to the conclusion that a song that makes me feel inspired and creative are good music. It varies from time to time what songs inspire me the most, like, nowadays for instance I always put on Amaranthe for good study music, but I guess this is the one song that has been on the top list for the longest.

Intuition” by Norwegian rockband TNT. TNT is one of the first bands of my “discovery era” back in 2007 that I really stuck with. Most bands I found, listened to a bit but never stuck. Then there’s this band. And this song. I remember, it was a friend on MySpace who posted the video and I was hooked immediatley.

I think most of you who read has probably seen me mentioning this song over and over again, if it’s not on blog or my facebook feed it’s in my magazine and what not, because that is essentially how important this song became to me. It became my spiritanimal, and I don’t even understand why or how. Perhaps it’s the lyrics “Intuition, one decision” that just makes, it I don’t know. But this is definitely the song I put on when I need encouragement.

Dionysus

Posted in Music, Uncategorized on November 9, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Alright, so this past weekend I’ve had my small moments of shuffling through bands on Spotify, and I came across this little band.

3031_photo
(Source: metal-archives.com)

They were called Dionysus, and were a Swedish/German band formed in 1999 by drummer Ronny Milianowicz, who left the band in 2007 and succeeded by Johannes Berg before the band, much to my dismay, disbanded in 2008. This is literally the second time I find a band I like that turns out to have disbanded. WHY.

Anyway. The band released three albums during it’s time – debutalbum “Signs of Truth” in 2002, followed by “Anima Mundi” (2004) and “Fairytales and Reality” (2006). They also released a compilationalbum in 2008. Apparently, this band worked fairly close to HammerFall – seeing Joacim Cans co-wrote a song or two on their albums, and Ronny did some backing vocals on “Legacy of Kings”.

What really got me into them is their EPIC music. I mean, basically – take HammerFall, but add some of the magic from Amaranthe you got Dionysus. Big chanting chorus, loud keyboards and epic lyrics makes this band just perfect, or perhaps, Epic. That’s really the best word to describe them. Judge yourself below!

Non Stop Rock n Roll – Wig Wam

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized on November 8, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

So, a few days ago I was challenged by one of my friends to write a list about my top ten favorite bands, which I somewhat transformed into a ten most influential bands instead. Maybe I’ll take the list and put it up here and write a little bit more about every band… Anyway. One of the bands that are natural on the list is Wig Wam, which brought this album to my mind.

lalala 030

Non-Stop Rock n Roll“, released in 2010 and is Wig Wam’s third full-lenght album.

I always used to say that whenever Wig Wam makes an album, they basically do a remix of themselves. Like, the original was “667 – The Neighbour of the Beast” / ” Hard to be a Rock n Roller” (these two are essentially the same record, the later one having an addition of ‘In My Dreams’). When they released “Wig Wamania” in 2006 it was basically the same album – but improved.  You can easily see it – “Mine All Mine” turned into “A Rock n Roll Girl Like You” and “Tell me Where To Go” turned into “At The End of The Day”, “Car-Lyle turned into “Dare-Devil Heat” and so on. Look yourselves, and you’ll see it.

However, with this in mind, I had pretty  high expectations when they said they’d enter the studio. I expected it to be Wig Wamania taken to the next level, if it was even possible?

And it was. By many, many miles. It succeeded all my expectations, and I consider it being a bit of an underrated album. It has this in your face and bombastic opening in “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” moving onto the more heavier “Walls Come Down”, and then into the more partylike “Wild One” and “C’mon Everybody”.

To top it off even better, they got Flash (bass) and Teeny (guitarr) sing a song each. Flash had already during the Wig Wamania era been given his own song, “Flying High” so I was expected to hear him again, which we did in “Chasing Rainbows”. Teeny, on the other hand, was quite a surprise. He sings on “Still I’m Burning” and not only does it sound good, it’s one of the best track so on the whole album.

But – I wanna shed some extra light on two other songs. The two songs, that in my opinion, is the best on the whole album. “Man in the Moon” (compare to Bygone Zone & Out of Time) and “Rocking Through My Heart” (compare to A Rock n Roll Girl Like You & Mine all Mine).  I’ve always been weak for the Mine All Mine / Rock n Roll Girl duo, so it’s no surprise to me that my favorite of the record would be “Rocket”. Man in the Moon on the other hand… The lyrics are absolutely beautiful, but what captures me the most about this song is the whole package, the arrangement. The soft, serene song together with these lyrics… this is one of the songs I can listen to on repeat without any difficulties.

So yes. This album, I want to warmly recommend, as long as you’re into 80’s kind of hairmetal. This is the best work of these men, and there isn’t a song on this album I don’t like listening to. And that’s what marks a good album, people.

Oh wow, this is fun.. It appears this CD is no longer in the making, so the only place to get it is at Amazon right here.
