Lordi @ Le Petit Bain, Paris, France 17/10 – 18

THIS BLOG DOES OF COURSE CONTAIN SPOILERS – so if you wish to be surprised during Sextourcism, don’t read this just yet!

So it was time! First gig of the tour for me, and what better band to being with than Lordi themselves? No better band if you ask me. We started the day relatively late though, I’ll admit. Once meeting up with Laura we headed off to Starbucks for a quick breakfast / lunch / dinner (you know how it goes on tour – it’s all pretty much the same meal) and then stopped by a bakery to pick up some cake.

You see, it’s Nathan’s birthday today. And three years ago, we met Nathan because we were celebrating Paula’s birthday in the line, and offered him cake. So naturally, we had to do the same for him right?

Upon arriving at Le Petit Bain, we noticed he was together with Paula and Martine, so good thing we picked up a lot of cake! We gave him, them, two pieces of the cake and then we stood around and talked for a long time, all the time until the doors opened actually. Was really nice catching up with Martine and Paula whom I haven’t met in a long time. When the doors opened, we got into the venue and Laura and I placed ourselves on the “balconies” or however I should call them, for a really good view of the show.

So, a little sad thing going on. Egokills entered the stage when it was set to be their play time, only to tell us they would not be performing tonight. One of the guitarists had injuried his wrist so badly he was unable to play, but we still gave them a big round of applause. Must have sucked though – a sold out venue and everything.

However, nothing bad that doesn’t bring something good with it. This gave Silver Dust an even long set to play!

Silver Dust, the swiss metal band who was the opener for Lordi last time on their Monstour as well are back, and this time they got their new album “House 21” in the baggage with them. The show had changed a bit since last time I saw them – and the show has been elevated a bit. The new show includes a lot more interaction and incorporation of the magic mirror, which makes it all to a new level.

The show on the other hand was really good. They performed a good set – got the crowd going – well, a french city would love a band who sings almost exclusively in French no? Despite having a mishap with Kikis guitarsolo, they got it through really well. Kudos to them!

After over an hour (!) they left the stage, and preparations for Lordi began. It’s funny, how even the smallest of waits like this can feel like forever. I guess it’s because I got tired. I’ve been very sleep deprived this whole week, I guess it was catching up with me. Not to mention when I finally sat down, haha!

But finally, “God of Thunder” started echoing in the speakers, and seriously, there is something absolutely numbing as well as adrenaline kicking whenever this starts. Intro started rolling, bandmembers walked on stage and they started off their set with “Sexorcism”.

To my.. I want to say big, but I have to say EXTREME surprise, “Would you Love a Monsterman?” was second song of the setlist. It’s pretty much set me off. I just stared at Laura like “what on earth are they doing?”. It’s like back on the Scare Force tour, when they had “Hard Rock Halleujah” very early in the set. I dont even know what to feel about it, I was just “ok..” the whole time, pretty much.

THEN. THEN my dear friends. “Missing Miss Charlene” was brought out. Seriously, I mean, the more they play from “Deadache” the better of course, but still, this was such a nice surprise. The song faded over in “House of Ghosts”, with a new trick that actually made me walk backwards straight into the people behind me – as they launch off the chorus in “House of Ghosts”, a ghost will jump out, straight over the crowds heads, from the door opening on the stage setting they had. Unexpected, and scared me enough to have my primal instincts getting myself out of there. Well done!

While on the subject of theatrics, lets take a moment to talk about the stage. It was massive. The set up. It’s closer to the castle from “The Arockalypse” than anything, but still very different. It’s like a.. cellar? I guess? A castle, but the inside of it? A chamber? It’s hard to pinpoint exactly, but it had the detail of the castle.

“Your Tongue’s Got the Cat” was next on the list, and seriously, this one really is a treat live. It’s so nice. The song launched into a pretty nice drumsolo, that apparently had tricks in it that I either didn’t pay attention to, or didn’t see at all because of my location in the venue, but all the same, it’s nice to see Mana in action.

“Blood Red Sandman” was next, and THE CRIB IS BACK. THE FUCKING CRIB IS BACK BABY. Oh yes. I’ve waited for this. Or have I? I don’t know if I have, but I’m glad it’s back. This time around, it is quite a theatrical show actually.

“It Snows in Hell” was next song – I must quickly admit something – this is the second show around now where I just can’t do my upside down thing, and it FEELS SO WEIRD. After all these years it’s just plop, gone! What.

Next up was Hella’s keyboard solo, which also, contained tricks that was impossible for us to see becasue of from where we were watching the show, but the solo itself was really cool.

The next surprise in the setlist was “She’s a Demon”. A song from “Scare Force One” that was very well liked, and it’s finally made its way into the setlists. And it was soooo good! It was unbelievable!

“Naked in my Cellar” was next on the list, and it was a rioter. Well, actually, the crowd has been pretty crazy all show I’ll say. This is why I almost prefer European shows to Swedish, the crowd is just that much better.

And then. Lights started flashing all around the hall, reminding me of the lights in “Night Witches”, and sirens calling and “Rock Police” started playing. THAT is a song I’ve wanted to have back in the setlist for so long, and seeing it make a comeback, without the electric chair though, is soo good. Wow, that was so awesome.

Next up was OX’s bassolo, which is a bit of an upgrade since last time – a little different, but conceptually the same. The song did however not erupt into “Bite It Like a Bulldog” this time, but rather “Hug You Hardcore”. Yeah, I may or may not have my own opinions of this song, but it is damn good live.

“The Riff” was the next song, always a pleasure. Amen’s guitarsolo was up next – and I noticed a little pattern in both OX’s and Amen’s solos, with a female voice over kind of selling the solos in a more sexual way, which was interesting and nice, I guess.

“Who’s Your Daddy?” was the last song, surprisingly without the sperm-machine or whatever you wanna call it, but it’s not the end of the world you know.

The band left the stage, and later returned to fire off “Devil is a Loser” With a NEW SET OF WINGS. I could tell right away that this was not the same wings as before – and they look so good! They are a lot higher, almost making him look like a bat, at least on a smaller stage like this. Seriously, amazing.

“Hard Rock Halleujah” was the last song of the show, and the band thanked for themselves and left the stage.

Wow, this show, I’m telling you! LORDI IS BACK BABY! At least that is what I’ve pretty much been walking around saying ever since. Ok, they never really left, but it’s been a long time, very long time, since I last saw Lordi have a show like this. It was amazing. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a Lordi show this much since.. Deadache tour? Can it have been that long? I think it truly has. This was so good to hear, made me effervescent and my little heart almost burst with love.

After the show, we headed over to the meet and greet. It was Nathan’s birthday after all, so we set up a meet for both him and Laura. After some time, we finally got in, and it escalated in a way I could never have imagined, with the band actually singing to him. Did I mention my heart bursted with love? Well if it hadn’t already, now I’m dead. Like I said before, Lordi is the love of my life and this is exactly way.

Paula and Martine was kind enough to get the merch for us, and once out we headed out of the venue and spent the rest of the evening by the tourbus with Silver Dust, Lordi, and a lot of epicness and laughter all the way until 4 am in the morning when we all went our separate ways.

Thank you all of the people who were involved in this evening, you are bloody amazing. Each and everyone of you.

REVIEW: Lordi – Sexorcism

So, Ladies and Gentlemen – here we are. Two years, well, not two years perhaps, but finally – a new Lordi album has seen the light of day. I’ll admit I am amongst those fans who have been a bit taken aback by the sudden change in themes from the band, but I’ve always decided to not take anything out in advance. Well, not too much anyway. “Sexorcism” is the ninth studio album from Finnish monster rock band and is said to be their most controversial album yet. I guess we shall see about that huh?

As per usual, I prepare you for potential use of my own names of the songs if I deem the title to complicated for my little brain to process. But you are used to that by now, aren’t you?

So, let’s get to it huh? The album opens with an intro of a priest chanting unhearable verses, like one is performing an (s)exorcism, before launching into a “Demonarchy” like guitarriffs and upbeat, cheerful melodylines, musical accessories and anthemlike chants that makes up the opening track, as well as the titletrack “Sexorcism”.

The track serves as a good opening phrase to what we are about the experience on the album as a whole. “Kittycat” is the second song, which launches us straight back to “Deadache”, and more specifically “Missing Miss Charlene” with some spices from Reckless Love’s “Back To Paradise” in the verses, calling for a very familiar yet different kind of song, but in every good possible way.

Starting from here it gets a little weaker. While “Romeo Ate Juliet” is a heavier and faster song, with the “classic” kind of horror lyrics we are used to with Lordi, it still falls somewhat flat on the album, for me. It feels like a lot could have been done, but wasn’t.

Same goes for “Naked In My Cellar” – the music video song, even though I really DO, for some reason, enjoy Mr Lordi’s newfound Ozzy Osbourne voice. I can imagine this song being real fun live though, despite all.

This continues on with “The Beast is Yet To Cum” – and it finally comes back alive with “Polterchrist”, with an eerie intro sung by a girl named Isabella, evolving into a lowkey, yet rough constipated-sung kind of verse, exploding in a crowdfriendly and adrenaline kicking chorus. The lyrics are haunting as well – precisely the type of thing I’d expect and want from this band.

However, the album really does pick up it’s pace then the intro from heavens appears – it sounds like a perfect mix of the epicness found in HammerFall’s “Crimson Thunder” and anything 80’s. The song itself seem to be a “Sick Flick” 2.0, following a similar theme. I feel this song might be one of those under dog songs that will grow to be very, very popular.

From here it’s a bit of a lukewarm soup. While both “Rimskin Assassin” and “Hell Has Room” has their own shares of comedy as well as musical craftmanship (the solo in “Rimskin Assassin” is marvellous), it leaves much to be wished for.

However, the pace IS in fact picked up a bit for the last three songs – “Hot and Satanned” being a typical revenge kind of song with enough musically erotic elements to make sure I’ll sign up for those damned pole dancing classes come this fall. And if a song makes you do that, you know it’s the shit. “Sodomesticated Animal” follows the line of being very typical Lordi with an extremly crowdfriendly chorus and the whole album is then wrapped up with the calm, eerie and very cosy “Haunting Seasons” which sums up the album perfectly.

Quite frankly, I feel that this album is all over the place. It has some really, and then I mean really, good songs and material, but the bits and pieces that weren’t all too great falls flat. There is most definitely an increase in sexually loaded songs as compared to before, but it’s not quite as bad as I would have expected it to be – so calm down you all. It’s not quite as controversial as I’d have expected it to be, but what is and what is not?

Musically I think it’s going in the same kind of veins as it has previously, with some of the newer elements from “Demonarchy” finding it’s way into the making of this. What I’m very keen on is all the accessories added here and there, which adds a lot more interest to the songs. Well done!

Favorite song: Tie between “Your Tongue’s Got the Cat” and “Hot and Satanned”. For several reasons.

Your Tongue’s Got The Cat

Sooo exciting times! Lordi has finally released their first single off their upcoming album “Sexorcism” and it’s no less than “Your Tongue’s Got The Cat”. Or as I say it, another song to list under songs without a cool acronym.

Here it is folks! Video and song and everything.

Let’s talk about the video first.

I LOVE the video. It’s a little bit… well, it gets you a bit epileptic. But it’s so beautifully made! I love each and everyone of Mr L’s drawings, and adding in the members pictures fits so well. Like, this was really well made. I love the little symbols that seem to have been added for each member – like a gymbadge if you like.

So, over to the song.

Sooo, I am like so pleased. I was a little worried with this era that things were about to go superduperultra sexual, so it’s beyond nice to see a song with normal, horror, Lordi lyrics. Well, what in my eyes are normal.

The song however, throws me right back to “Deadache” era. Which is anything but a problem, seeing “Deadache” is still my top Lordi album. The song seem a bit like a mixture between “Missing Miss Charlene” and Reckless Love’s song “Back to Paradise” – mostly the verses melody line –  which was the first thing that caught my attention with the song. But it’s so good. Like, super. A very nice throwback to the 80’s just in the way I want it.

Now, I’m for real excited for the album. Just a month and more left. Feeling all giggly.

New Mask – Amen

So here he is! The “ancient assassin” – I love that they add the old titles of the band. Finally starting to use the backstories they once had. Are any of the newer fans even aware of them? No clue.

That aside, this one MAJOR upgrade from “Monstereophonic” where I don’t even know anymore how I felt about. It was odd. Beyond odd. So seeing him with a new, vicious face just rubs me the right way.

I particularly like that the eyes has been shaped into having a constant angry face – in change from the like, surprised? kind of face he had before. Exposed bone above the eye. And seems like someone, got his nose.

Either way, it’s a major upgrade. And I like it.

New Mask – OX

So here he is! The hellbull, up and close. OX has never been among my favorite costumes before – I have liked him, but he’s never been among my favorite designs.

Until now.

Because for the first time, probably ever with OX, I felt absolutely terrified when I saw him.

He’s gone from being an ordingary carcass of a bull to some mix between Belsebub and Krampus looking extremely vicious. The brand new red skintone doesn’t exactly help either – making him look like he burned in hell and returned to haunt the lives of us puny peasants.

His hair seem to come in dreads now, rather than one big wig as it was before, unless this is just a trick of the image, and I love the skull pearls that has been added to it.

Now, I can’t even begin to wait for the full on body shots to investigate the bodies a bit more.

Sexorcism – a run down

So, the new album artwork and title as well as the tracklisting has finally been revealed! Well it’s some time ago now since I wrote this entry, of course, but nonetheless, it’s that joyous time again when things are happening in the Lordicamp.

So. “Sexorcism” huh. Lordi is really following down the path from “Hug You Harcore”, aren’t they? I don’t know what to feel about it. On the one hand, it’s all the same to me. It’s just a title. But on the same time, being not the biggest fan of “Hug You Hardcore” it does make my eyeballs pop.

The artwork on the other hand… Again, well done on Mr L for completing yet another masterpiece, althought the feminist inside of me wants to scream and protest, I won’t. Because I guess this goes hand in hand with the title and potential theme of the album.

So yeah. This tracklist doesn’t… well. It goes hand in hand with the album title does it? I’m still a 100% concerned that this is just a 13 track long “Hug You Hardcore” kind of album.

Deep inside I wish and hope that “Romeo Ate Juliet” is in fact about a high school boy eating up his promdate, as I told Nathan some time ago. That “Haunting Season” is really about like, haunting peasants and killing them, and what not, they can still just as well be about Romeo eating Juliet out, and Haunting Season being about preying on well, partners.

“Your Tounge’s Got The Cat” is another one that has me in a twist. Cat as in Pussy, or just a very long tounged monster eating your little cat? Who the hell knows?

Maybe “The Beast Is Yet To Cum” is just about a beast arriving some place, like to his date with Belle, without any sexual undertones. However I’m meant to interpret “Rimskin Assassin” any other way than about anal fisting, I have no idea.

I feel like this era is threading on thin lines. It could be genius, pure gold, just as well as it could be a complete disaster. The titles could be exactly what they are told out to be, as well as be the exact opposite just to screw with us.

I guess we just have to wait, don’t we?

New costumes – new era

Wow I have so much to catch up on. But rather start here and now, right?

Sooo, it’s those exciting times again in the Lordi cycle – the new era, the new costumes – the new album – everything! And first out, the costumes

So there you have it people! The new Lordi 2018!

And wow.  This was not at all what I expected, and I’d be lying if I denied that my eyes went first to Hella. Her game has sure as hell been sexed up, but she’s looking damn good doing it. If I hadn’t known that she has some say in her own costumes, I’d probably be burning up over it, but since she do – all kudos to her. And I’m beyond happy she’s back to blonde. FINALLY. And also. Is it her babies on her bra or what?

I like Amen’s new look. With the picture that’s been delivered you can’t see much detail just yet, but his mask must be one of the more evil ones he’s had. But then again, not a lot of improvement was needed considering “Monstereophonic” costume was his lowest one TO DATE.

The first thing that came to mind upon seeing Mana was Kita’s costume from Deadache era 2008. Like, they have the same barber. And his fangs look nice. Aside that, you can’t really see much of him with what is given.

Same kind of goes for Mr Lordi. I am totally digging the skulls as well as the eyeball necklace, and the mask is looking damn good – but too covered.

Now, OX… Maybe I’m just wearing off the first crush or something, but this is by far the best costume OX has had. He’s looking absolutely terrifying, like the devil himself was reincarnated into a hellbull and put in a band in Finland. It’s been some time since I felt intimidate by someone in this band… But now I am. Well done!

So. That’s the first impressions. Lets now await the close ups for a more, broken down, look at the costumes

Lordi @ Hell Rock Fest, Ciudad Real, Spain 16/9-17

So, we slept in big time, which was soooo nice. I know we didn’t go to bed THAT late in Norway, but still – always good to catch some sleep, and rest. Once you are on a vacation and all, you know.

I hopped in the shower first thing when I woke up and then we packed our stuff and headed out to the car. We stayed in Madrid, and the show was about a two hour drive away from the city, so we had a long drive. But before we could go, we had to have some breakfast, and we decided on KFC. So we had a pleasant KFC meal out in the sun. I think this is the point that it finally hit me I’m in Spain. As always on tour, I tend to lose grip on time and space, and that includes where the hell in the world I am.

Once sort of finished, we FINALLY jumped in the car and started the looong drive up to the place. I was of course dealing with being the DJ for the trip, and after a long, scenic and beautiful drive we finally found ourselves at the venue… or festival. And well… I mean.

I know it is a small festival. But this was something else. There was one open air stage – I didn’t even realize it was an open air festival – there was one bar with drinks, one place where you could get tokens and one merch booth. There wasn’t even a foodplace. Which confused me, and also made me very happy we brought some leftovers.

The first band I watched today was Prima Nocte, a female fronted metal band that was pretty good actually. I enjoyed the set!

I also saw Iridium, but eventually decided to head back to the car to get some rest, as the sun and heat were getting to me and I felt my blood sugar drop real fast. I spend a long time there, resting and getting ready, and waiting for the sun to drop. I made my way back in when Morphium was just about to wrap up their set, and ironically enough I was given a setlist. And I hadn’t even been watching the band. Like, what.

Once the sun went down, it went very very cold. Very rapidly. So cold I had to get back to the car to pick up another cardigan to wear outside of my leather jacket. Seriously! I took the time out of the pit to also pick up on a festivalshirt, because much to my surprise, it was actually pretty nice.

Soon enough though, it was time for the band of the bands to perform. At 00.30, or more like, 00.40, Lordi went on stage (so late right, I know!) and started off the set with Skeletor and “Let’s Go Slaughter He-Man”

The band then continued on with “The Riff” and.. the front row was pretty good. It always fascinated me how Lordi is like, the biggest smallest band. They always have people waiting in line at the front rows on festivals, even in Sweden, at least a couple of hours before they go on, and it’s always full. Despite this the bookings aren’t there. Why? But aside that, it was a bit… well what you would expect from a small festival like this.

The new song in the setlist for the summer, “Demonarchy” was on the list, and this is still as good as the first time I heard it live. After all, it is my own favorite off the “Demonarchy” side so obviously, it makes me happy. “Hellbender Turbulence” was fired off before OX was set to have his moment. I think I’ve said it before, but I have never enjoyed a bass solo as much as I’ve enjoyed OX’s this year. He’s still doing the funk / dance kind of solo, and it really is one of the highlights. A priestess, or nun, comes on stage to tell him to shut the hell up, but he just slays her, and “Bite it Like a Bulldog” is a go.

Mana launched us into “Babez For Breakfast”, which is so good to see as a return. The cowbells chimed, which is sort of my queue. But Mr L didn’t reach all the way. For those of you who are perhaps new readers or don’t remember – for the past six years I’ve spent “It Snows in Hell” upside down at the barrier. And on certain occasions Mr L took this as a queue to try to drown me. Some occasions were more successful than others. As on the rest of the tour, it was merged together with “Children of the Night”

“Hug you Hardcore” was next on the list, followed by “Sincerely With Love”. Another new surprise for this summer, “Sick Flick” was introduced, and it took me all up ’til now to realize that the “Down with the Devil” thing is happening here – with the priest pressing a cross on Mr L’s head. I didn’t really pay attention on Vicious Rock, and for the first time in my life I wasn’t going there with a Lordi fan – which made it all a bit awkward when I tried to ask him where it was.

An old favorite – “Nailed by the Hammer of Frankenstein” was ripped off, followed by “Blood Red Sandman”. And I think I’ve said it before – but I’ll say it again. You know you have seen a band, perhaps too many times, when your timing is timed perfectly with the band. Even on a live version.

Nalle started playing the intro, and “Hard Rock Hallelujah” was a go. Surprisingly, the crowd wasn’t going as nuts as I thought they would. That’s new. Usually festivalcrowds like this loses it during this one. Hm. Amen came out, alone, did his hand-thing and “Devil is a Loser” was a go.

A sidenote, on the whole “seeing-a-band-too-much”. Nathan sent me a message during the show, asking if they were still on, and I simply sent him a picture of the stage before Amen walked on. And he was like “Ah, Devil is a Loser!” only to moments later say “Wait. Did I just call out the songs only by the lights? This is a new level.” and it’s so true. Haha.

“Who’s Your Daddy?” was the next song on the list, before they rounded the whole show up with “Would you Love a Monsterman?”. The band thanked for the show, and left the stage.

Soon after, after sorting some stuff that had to be taken care of, Santi and I left the festival ground. At like, 3 am. Two hour drive. And I was getting up at 7.30.

Fun, huh? See guys. The tourlife has it’s backside, too.

Vicious Rock Festival, Trollhättan 8/7-17

On it again. It appears, there’s barely any rest for me what so ever when it comes to festivals. And honestly though, why would it be? And especially so when Lordi’s on the bill. We got to Trollhättan the day before in order to get there in time, get settled and basically get to relax. Sjorven was coming from Belgium, so it was either the day before or waay too late. It was a nice evening of dinner and catching up, and getting ready for the day to come. Oh by the way. I think I have officially had the smallest hotelroom yet. It was basically just a bed! Haha!

We were actually a bit lazy, which I always tend to be when I’m attending something where only one or two bands excite me. We got up fairly late, went to MAX for a change (at least for me) and had lunch / dinner before walking down to the area. Time optimist as I am, we of course did not get there an hour before Art Nation started, rather ten minutes. But hey – at least we weren’t late! That must count for something, no?

Art Nation

Art Nation bravely went on stage for the approximately 20 people that were in front of the stage. They opened, much like on Sweden Rock with “One Nation”, and quickly followed up with “Alive”.  The newest single “The Real Me” was next, and I was happy to see they did, despite the thin crowd, have quite a few fans, that knew the songs and such. I like that.

“Need You to Understand” and “Kiss Up & Kick Down” followed suite, and the band… Was doing good. You know, considering the circumstances. I can imagine it’s hard to really get anywhere when the crowd is… fairly small.

“Paralyzed” and “Don’t Wait for Salvation” was next, followed by “Start a Fire” until they finally wrapped up with “All In” and “Ghost Town”.

Given the circumstances, it was a very very good show. I still think some of the member might have to get a bit more comfortable in their own skin, but I reckon that comes with time.

After that, we planned to stay in front of the stage for the rest of the day, but pretty soon we figured that, yeah, we are not going to have to do that, so we wandered about the little place that was the festival area, checking out the practically non-existing merch and shopping booths. We did get some patches, though!

We lazily watched Chris Holmes and whatever band was really playing, and it wasn’t until after that (meaning it was just Sator and then Lordi) we claimed our spots at the barrier. And then the wait began… and then… You know.

Lordi

Sjorven is a first timer. He’s never ever seen Lordi before, not even being NEAR seeing Lordi before. So he’s a first timer. So I told him – you know it will start when “God of Thunder” starts. Much like “In The Army” with Sabaton. So imagine my confusion, when what started echoing from the speakers was in fact “SCGVIII: The Opening Scene”. I got dumbfounded and I was just like “what”. Wasn’t exactly prepared.

After Mana and NALLE (!) had gone on stage, Skeletor came out and “Let’s Go Slaugther He-Man” was set off. The crowd was pretty thick actually – I liked that. A lot. But sadly… Yeah. It is like it with Lordi, let me leave it at that. “The Riff” was next on the list, followed by, already as the third song, the song I was the most exicted about for the evening – “Demonarchy”.

Never in my life did I think I’d get to witness “Demonarchy” live, at least not like this. At least not this soon. I knew they spoke of some, potential, probable special show, but aside that, we all thought and felt that as far as the “Demonarchy” side goes, we are all screwed. But apparently not. And it was absolutely dreamy live. I love this song so much, do you understand? OX’s bassolo together with “Bite it Like a Bulldog” was next on the list, and then “It Snows In Hell / Children of the Night”. Upside down never gets old. Well at least not for me. I was a bit worried the guards wouldn’t let me do it, but we always manage to persuade them. One way or another.

“Hug You Hardcore” was next on the list, and then a bloody return of “Sincerely With Love”. Like, I really did not miss this song, and I remember I just turned to Sjorven shaking my head like “why is this back?” Oh well. If they like it! And then, the second surprise for the night.

“Sick Flick”.

I’m pretty sure this song was the most wished for song ever since like, “Icon of Dominance”, and finally they are doing! And it was absolutely amazing. “Nailed by the Hammer of Frankenstein” was next, this song I DID miss on the other hand, so good one. The set was then wrapped up by the big three, if you like – “Blood Red Sandman”, “Hard Rock Hallelujah” and “Devil is a Loser”. And of course, encores in the shape of “Who’s Your Daddy” and “Would you Love a Monsterman?”.

The monsters thanked for the evening, and walked off the stage. The show was really good, like really good. Hello, “Demonarchy”? And it was good to see Nalle in action. I guess you could say I “missed out” on him last time around, and even if I miss Hella, (where the hell is the women?!) it was really good to see him.

After the show, we lazily watched Niefelheim before buying popcorn and walking back home to the hotel.

My month in Music

So! It’s not really the end of the month just yet, but as I’m off to Helsinki tomorrow to watch the incredible Epica, I will have to give you this little update right now. Essentially, what I’ll be doing is collecting my data from LastFM and speak a little bit about the top six bands at the moment, that I’ve listened to the most this past month.

6. Danse dE Sade

So this is a new discovery – at least in a way. This band, together with Tower Guard, were the only of Lordi’s supportbands I did listen to one or two songs prior to the shows, but this band was the only one I remembered at the time (sorry Tower Guard).

Probably because as with most bands  I’ve grown to be fond of- they intrigued me. During our stay in L.A. we saw them twice – first supporting Lordi on their show at the Whisky, which was something I will never, ever forget. Honestly. What a band! What a show! We saw them two days later again at the Viper Room, and enjoyed it just as much this time around.

5. Art Nation

No surprise. Art Nation was a band I first thought “hey lets check them out” at Skogsröjet, and have now rapidly grown into being one of my favorite bands. I am beyond excited for their new album “Liberation”, as their previous one “Revolution” just as with H.E.A.T’s albums, is nothing but pure perfection. They recently released the new single “The Real Me” and I’m addicted to it.

4. Amaranthe

I don’t think I give this band enough credit toward myself on how much I enjoy their music. I must admit I was a little bit disappointed in “Maximalism” as it felt far away from what I’ve gotten to know as Amaranthe, and it felt sloppy – the lyrics weren’t what they once were, and as well as singing style. But then again, it’s hard to follow up a masterpiece like “MASSIVE ADDICTIVE”.

3. Lordi

They need no further introduction. I’m a little personally surprised they are behind Powerwolf, seeing we saw Lordi live this month (ok, we did see Powerwolf as well but) but it was only by three songs, so I can survive.

2. Powerwolf

Doesn’t surprise me too much. This is one of those bands whose album I’ll put on when I need something to listen to, be it in the background or just to enjoy myself. It’s something about the music with this band that drags you in – for every time you see this band, you fall more in love with them. It’s a dangerous thing.

1 . Crystal Viper

This is a bit of a surprise. Crystal Viper recently released a new album, the comeback album if you like just days ago, and it appears I liked it more than I thought seeing the numbers. They have twice the amount of plays compared to Powerwolf, would say something.

So. That sums up my month in music. It is interesting to see where your listening patterns actually are. Huh.
