Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now

Posted in Uncategorized on December 7, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

That’s almost what I feel like now. I have finally finished all the exams I had left to finish for school, and I only have some minor music business related tasks left, and the music business isn’t exactly what’s tricky for me as you know.

Aside that, my concert weeks are starting to come together as well. I’ve finally been able to book the majority of the trip for SlipKnot tour, and it feels good as hell. After calculations and thinking and more calculations it appears I can do one more stop on my SlipKnot tour which makes me beyond excited. Figured I’d celebrate all these amazing happenings with re-decorating my Lordi wall (tomorrow) and perhaps getting a few cheap CD’s or two. I just need to get my CD-priority list in line. I have this whole list of CD’s I plan to get, but I always end up buying CD’s that aren’t on the list at all. Why. WHY.

Now, I need to get to bed. Tomorrow is a hectic day; doctor’s appointment in the morning, lecture in school and after that some sweet voice overs in the studio again. Loving this right now.

“It takes like pop and rap to keep these labels going because those are the only people that are buying records anymore.”

Posted in Tankar och funderingar, Uncategorized with tags , , , on December 6, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

I have already written about this on my personal Facebook page, but I’m going to bring it up here as well, but more evolved.

The quote in the title is a quote by no other than Jim Root to MorningCall magazine he made recently, and the quote had me stunned for several minutes and then it had me almost burning up.

Since when, SINCE WHEN, do metal heads not buy records?

On the contrary – Metalheads are precisely the people who still buy records. I remember an article from a few years back about a girl opening a recordstore selling metal music with the reason “Metalheads will always buy records”. When I go to Sweden Rock, there’ll be a record tent around every corner. I have yet to see this phenomenon at a mix-festival, because Peace&Love sure as hell did not have it. Why? Probably because the average pop and rap fans are NOT as likely to buy records. I personally have yet to meet a person outside the metal community that is as passionate and and true to their genre. Metalheads are collectors. They won’t batch an eye about getting all your various deluxe and special and collectors edition of your CD’s.

Sure – let’s talk about it quickly. There are plenty of metal heads who download illegally (why?) and there are metal heads who use Spotify more than CD’s for some reason, of course, and there are rap and pop people who are the same as metal heads – but you cannot deny that metal heads are one of a kind when it comes to dedication.

Perhaps what Jim Root meant to say was “Rap and pop are what is sold better commercially”. That, on the other hand is a whole new story. Pop and rap are generally more popular, and thus selling more albums. The problem is rather that he’s comparing his band to artists that are way, WAY ahead of them popularity wise. Lady Gaga has no problems selling out Ericsson Globe, and SlipKnot has yet to sell out Hovet. Metal as a sub genre is STRONG in it’s passion and dedication, but it isn’t as widespread popularity wise.

Another problem I can see with this is Spotify. And not Spotify per se – but how the band uses it. I pre-ordered “The Gray Chapter” in order to get it a little before hand – here in Sweden, the companies always ships the CD’s a bit before releasedate to make sure you have the CD in your hands on the release date, but in 99% of the times, the CD’s comes to you a day or two before the release.

Can you guys imagine my disappointment and resignation when I learn that they have decided to release the entire album almost a week before original releasedate on Spotify. Sigh. So what was the point of me preordering it, when I don’t get it “before” everyone else anyway? And it’s not like they make any money off Spotify, as we’ve started to learn lately.

I assume “The Gray Chapter” didn’t meet the expectations this band had for it in success, but here’s an idea – DO NOT RELEASE THE ALBUM FOR FREE A WEEK BEFORE THE RELEASE DATE AND PERHAPS MORE WILL BUY IT. Or wait all in all.

Sometimes I just get so fed up with some of the members of this band. At times it feels like they are pissing all over their fans. Ruining their phones, making it unsafe for them and now this shit. It feels like they have some inner frustration with each other and now they are taking it out on the fans. Seriously, could someone shoot them off their large horses? What sour stone as Jim Root been living under? Or is this phenomenon Europe exclusive? I don’t know, but I’ll quote Fredrik Strage:

There are only three things that would survive a nuclear war: bacteria, cockroaches and metal heads“.

Anytime, Anywhere

Okay, so, as you guys know, I have this love-hate relationship towards Spotify. I think the idea is fine, even though I’ve always doubted how lucrative it really is towards musicians. I’m always going to think of it as a better option than illegal downloading (which I can’t stand, like, pay for the music goddamnit) but I have never been 100% sure about it.

However, I’m not going to lie. I do have Spotify installed on my computers, and I use it from time to time. I wrote about it this summer, that I was listening through all of Amaranthe’s CD’s on it while awaiting the CD’s myself, because I didn’t really want to go to the show and not knowing their songs.

The only reasons I am today using Spotify is for researching a band I’m supposed to write about, if the album is only available there and looking for new bands. I go on a certain band and look through the related artists. This is how I found bands as Dionysus and One Man Army and the Undead Quartet, for examples.

Today I got an email from Spotify wanting to sum up my year in music according to Spotify, and I thought it could be fun. I’ve decided to wait to post the results until New Year’s are coming, but what they did to, is that they created this playlist with new suggestions for me for 2015 of bands I might like. This should be interesting.

Looking through the list, I wasn’t too surprised. They had listed bands as Freedom Call, Helloween, Sonata Arctica, Within Temptaion, Kamelot, Dragonforce, Nightwish, Volbeat, In Flames, Fintroll, Edguy, Raubtier, Van Canto and Slash. These are all bands that I’ve listened a bit to before, some more (Van Canto) some less (In Flames) so I’ll sure as hell go through this list.

The biggest surprise for me was the listing of Sabaton, Lordi and HammerFall. Like, ok. Come on. LORDI? I’m pretty sure I’ve listened A LOT to Lordi on Spotify this year…

However, I’m most curios about the bands on the list I wasn’t familiar with. A lot of you reading this entry will want to shoot me down after I say this, but the bands listed was: Völkerball, Pentakill, Oomph!, CygnosiC, Sarah Blackwood, Jamie Christopherson and Linked Horizon.

I’m looking forward to start looking through these bands. So with that said. I’m still a bit skeptic toward Spotify, but I DO love these functions of it.

Thanks Spotify!

For What It’s Worth

Posted in Uncategorized on December 4, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Been a slow day today. Some schoolwork has been done, but mostly, I’ve used the day to run some errands downtown and later on christmas decorating my room.

Normally, I don’t do a lot of christmas decorations and I’ve actually kept it a bit to a minimum this year as well. Once I move out and away from home, I guess things will change. When we were out downtown earlier today I found these awesome baubles, three in the shape of skulls and two round pink ones with studs on them. I put them up in my window, where I already have the green glitter and pink light. Turned out pretty nicely.

The second thing I did was to redecorate the arrangements on the TV. Previously it was just random glasses for candles (what is that even called in english?) shaped as pumpkins and normal ones, but I took all of that away and put up a wintermug with a teddy reindeer in it, a scented candle (vanilla) with some christmas theme on, and my little Christmas cactus, which got some glitter on him, a ball and a star on top. To top off this, I also took down Olaf, Anna, Sven, Kristoff and SF-Elsa to pop it even more. Ahh, this sure is Frozen’s season!

Like, seriously. Sweden Rock just continues to deliver GOOD FUCKING BANDS making this possibly one of the most epic years since 2008! I’m especially excited for Dokken. I never actually thought I’d get to see them live EVER, so to hear them being confirmed for Sweden Rock just excites me SO much. And do I even need to tell you how I feel about Hardcore Superstar being there? Guess not! Slash will be fun to see too.

God, this line up is just getting better and better. Festivalsummer 2015, BRING IT ON!

My Plauge

Today has been yet another long and “busy” day at Ingesund. We have finally started our first production though – it’ll be a spoof of a SlipKnot video we found on Youtube. It’s only about a minute long, but it feels like a good start.

Of course, the day hasn’t been troublefree. It’s doesn’t even seem to matter – if Michelle and I are gonna do something, it WILL fuck up wheter I want that or not. At first, I was just about to make the train when I realized I had forgotten the passcard to the studio at home, and thus ending up late again. Once we got there, my computer, neither one them, wanted to get on the wireless internet in the studio, but gladly, after an HOUR or so of swearing, it finally did. And then, the soundcard would at first not synchronize with the computer, but once we got THAT to work the soundcard wouldn’t synchronize with Logic Pro X and we were just sitting there like AHSDLAJSDLAJS. We are sure as hell not meant to be doing this, OR, faith is possibly trying our patience to see how persistant we are.

After a little while, it FINALLY started, and we could finally get to work. We started off brainstorming a bit on what we were going to say, who was gonna play which member and so on. We got together some pretty sweet stuff and afterwards decided to wing it.

Dubb2 006 Dubb2 007

The voicing went smooth. It was A LOT easier this time around, as we had taken ourselves the time to get familiar with the clip, but also the fact there weren’t any particularly long dialouges or tricky lines. I think it went all cool. We managed to finish off Mick, Joey, Chris and Clown before starting to edit them in for a first draft.

Dubb2 014

It was a little tricky at first, and when I finally set down to cut in the voices on the right places I noticed we had managed to delete the BEST PART of Mick’s monolouge. HOW IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE. Gladly, it was fairly easy to recreate. After finishing and wrapping up the first day of recordings, we celebrated with some microwave pizza and a recorded Phineas&Ferb Star Wars, seeing it for the first time ever, in Ingesunds cafeteria.

Dubb2 015

Ahh, the glamourous life of “voice actors” huh? Haha, not really, but cozy as hell! Can’t wait to get down with this little project, but gladly we are continuing next week!

Today’s been an interesting day. We started the whole day off with having Lordi announce their tour – which is beyond awesome. FINALLY we are getting the Tour Force One dates. Of course, as suspected, no dates for Fenno-Scandinavia, but we finally made a decision on where to go see the Monstars again. If they were to announce dates in Sweden later on, we sure would go anyway, but, yes. It feels good that next year is finally coming together.

Aside that, I decided to take the day off from school and everything because of the hectic weekend – some weekends I work first at the nightclub, and then in the morning I work in the stable. I only get two hours sleep in between, so I’m basically WIPED OUT after a weekend like this. But one day off usually does the trick!

But, anyway, I went out and got most of my christmas shopping done. And that makes me SO GLAD. I only have one more person to shop for, and it takes away SO MUCH stress it ain’t even funny. It feels good to have it done, and I spent half my evening packing the stuff. For some reason I’ve gotten more into the actual packing and wrapping rather than the gifts. Funny.

Tomorrow is a big day though, voice overs are on the schedule again! See yah later!

REVIEW: Bloodbound – Stormborn

Posted in CDs, Music, Uncategorized on November 30, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

It’s been two years since we last heard of Swedish Powermetallers in Bloodbound and finally they are back with new material. According to the pressrelease, the band have taken their HammerFall/Iron Maiden inspired sound with touches of Sabaton and Powerwolf but taken to next level.

And that is pretty much exactly what the album is. I’m going to be honest with you – when the album first popped into my mailbox, I wasn’t familiar with Bloodbound at all, which is why the review is a little delayed. But – the first thing that popped into my mind when listening to the album was precisely what they said above – HammerFall with Bruce Dickinson on vocals, with elements of Sabaton.

However, it might at times be a little too Sabaton-y. I recognize a lot of the material off the album from Sabaton songs, and I even found myself singing the pre-chorus to “Gott Mit Uns” in one of the songs, and I hear “Konungens Likfärd” in the chorus in the same song and I’m not sure what to make of that. I do like the childrens choir though.

Aside these things – I do like the album a whole lot. I love the bombastic elements, the speed in the verses and the themes of the lyrics. The epicness in the arrangements and writings satisfy me a lot. Especially songs as “Stormborn”, “When All Lights Fail” and “When the Kingdom will Fall”. The strong content of the rest of the album makes it easier to overlook the almost-plagiarism song. Good job!

If you, like me, like bombastic epic powermetal, this album should be right down your alley.

GF Challenge – Day 4:Favorite Fan Theory or Headcannon

Posted in 20 Days Gravity Falls Challenge, Gravity Falls, Uncategorized on November 29, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Hmm. This one got me thinking for a little while. I think I like the idea of Stanford’s twin though.

stanfordtwins

Just as Dipper and Mabel are twins, the theory is about Stanford having a twin as well, called Stanley. If you look at the numberplate of Stan’s car, you can see it says “STNLYMBL” rather than “STNFD”, which is one of many, many reasons the theory has started. The theory and it’s “evidence” are explain pretty good in _THIS_ Tumblr post, so go check it out!

It seems pretty reasonable to me, considering that he’s Mabel’s and Dipper’s GRANDUNCLE it only makes sense he’d have a brother, and since the two young ones are twins, why couldn’t Stan and Stanley? I hope this is something Hirsch is truly working on, so we don’t end up with nothing. God, I wish Seasons 2 of Gravity Falls could just start here in Sweden!

GF Challenge Day 3: Favorite Creature / Monster

Posted in 20 Days Gravity Falls Challenge, Uncategorized on November 28, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Initially, I thought of Bill Cipher, but I sort of realized he may not count. I don’t know really – I cound him more as a character than a monster, so I don’t know. So okay – I’ll mention Bill Cipher here, as an honorable mention, and instead say

manotaurs

The Manotaurs.
“Half man – Half taur”

These are spotted in “Manliness vs Dipper” and they are determined to make Dipper a man. They name him “The Destroyer” and they pull him through all sorts of tests in order to be a man – such as sticking his hand down a hole and getting a beer-stomach. The last task he’s given by the leader is the kill the Multibear, which he decides against and with that learning from Grunkle Stan that what really makes a man is to stand up for himself and what he believes in.

These creatures always makes me laugh for some reason. Maybe it’s because I can hear the voice of the first one going “Destroyeeeer” when Dipper goes up against the leader and also the fact that all of these manotaurs are basically within the male stereotype, love how Hirsch is mocking with the whole concept of this. But yes. The Manotaurs. Best creatures.
