Finest Hour

Posted in Uncategorized on July 10, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

So, like I said, today was Boda Borg day so around 9 in the morning we got in the car and hit off to Karlskoga for a day, a bit shorter, but still a day of questing.

We started out the whole day with FAME, before going upstairs to be done with “Rock It”, and from there, we just went all over the place.

Since last time we were there, they have opened a few new quests such as Rebus, MasterMind and Gold, Silver, Bronze. We managed to conquer Rebus, Mastermind and Bronze, but due to dysfunction on Bronze, we never made it to Gold. We did Silver once, but failed at first attempt and never made it back.

Other quests we didn’t finish was The Castle, although, this time we managed to get through half of the last room. So with other words, next time we will own it so hard. All Hand on Deck we never did either, but this was lack of time. We got access to the quests (meaning, no queues) only like ten minutes before they close and we had forgotten for a moment what you did in the last room. Shit happens.

And Time Hunt. Which pissed us off so much, because we didn’t do anything wrong, it just kep giving us red lights when we just proceeded with what we were supposed to do. Oh well.

For being three hour shorter than usual, I’m still glad we managed to do as many quests as we did, especially given we had a lot of completely new quests to finish, which always takes longer time since you have to figure them out.

Absolute Zero

Posted in Uncategorized on July 8, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

Really just the current song playing on my iPod, but it’s kinda what it feels like when you’ve just left two of your best friends.

We took the long drive, or well, not too long, roughly two hour drive to Gardemoen to drop off our third piece Nathan after him spending an amazing week with us here in Sweden. A lot of laughter, almost so hard we cried at times, but also sharing heart to heart stories.

Best ending of it all was of course Nathan messing up the time, so we got real nervous for a while before I got my hands on his boardingpass and noticed he was indeed leaving at nine, and not eight like he originally said.

It was hard to say good bye, but how do you even say good bye to one of your best friends? It’s tough.

Gladly, he is already planning his return. Good.

Up

Posted in Uncategorized on July 7, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

Today I, again, spent half a day with Nathan and Michelle. He’s leaving tomorrow, so it’s kind of bittersweet, you know? We all ordered asian food and headed off to this pretty little stop-place for cars where we ate and laughed and played for a good hour or so, including Kocoum screams, Nathan throwing noodles as flies and me trying to do spins.

At one point we all jumped up on different stones and tried to summon Mr L with the help of my Bill Cipher necklace. Didn’t work. Shape before Boda Borg is good, too. We kept playing for a good hour before we decided to go back in order to get some candy, crisps and drinks and returned to the spot where we wrote filthy fanfics about Amen, OX, Mana and Nathan.

When the mosquitos became too much, we headed home and spent the last few hours talking shit about everything and nothing.

You know, it sure is something very very special when you meet those kind of people you have everything in common with, to the extent that you can do everything and nothing, saying anything and nothing and it all just fits, you know?

Gah, I sure don’t want him to leave.

The Chosen One

Posted in Uncategorized on July 6, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

Spent the first half of the day cleaning and preparing for Antoine’s arrival, and the other half of the day with my other halves, Nathan and Michelle. We went and bought tacos and cooked and watched the full version of Mosterman while eating. It was a cry, laugh and screamfest deluxe.

For instance, we were about to show Nathan who Sophie was on the DVD, and ended up screaming like idiots because right infront of her, was Oscar Dronjak, you know, guitarist in HammerFall? Fucking insane.

And I also learned how afraid these two dorks are of spiders. I don’t mean to belittle anyone who is afraid, but it was ridiculous. I tried to take it out, but once I managed to catch it I accidentally set it free so… have fun with that!

The night continued on with a lot of talking and laughing, and eventually a car-ride home where I impersonated all the different personalities I can take on in different Lordi songs, leaving us all with sore stomachs and wide smiles.

I hate that he’s going home. Why is he going home?!

REVIEW: Borealis – Purgatory

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on July 5, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

Canadian metallers Borealis are returning to the scene with their 3rd album, following the smaller success of their two previous albums, “World of Silence” which was released in 2008, and “Fall From Grace” which came in 2011. “Purgatory” was recorded in the Sanctuary studios, and the recordings and mixing was done by drummer Sean Dowel, and mastered by Thomas “Plec” Johansson.

The album opens up with someone running, assumingly in the hosptial judging on the heart monitor in the background and eventually, when the heart stops beating, it launches us right into the heavy truck that is Borealis, and that track is “Past the Veil”.

And this song kind of sets the mood for the whole album. It’s heavy tunes with fast-beating drums, yet sensitive lyrics that hits hard at home. Despite them taking a step a bit further from their previous albums, it’s still the same Borealis that we already knew of.

However, what it lacks, to me, is variation. We got to ballads on the album, aside that, most of the songs sound very alike, and so do the ballads. Some songs had it’s moments – like the keyboard part in “The Chose Ones” and the trippy guitars in “Destiny” which also held some epicness…. but aside this. It was almost like it was one long song, which necessarily has to be something bad but…

There were a few songs who stood out for me – “Past The Veil”, “My Peace”, mostly because of the child reading the note in the middle of the song, and my personal favorite on the album, “From The Ashes”. I have no idea who the woman singing is, but I absolutely loved the way the song was built up, as a duet which added so much to the lyrics and the song, ultimately making it my favorite song. I have a weak spot for arrangements, and this was perfect.

So, wrapping it all up, a few decent song, but it’s a bit plain for me. But on the other hand, you have to put one foot in front of the other, and see a lot of potential here.

Hardcore Superstar @ Putte i Parken, Karlstad, Sweden 4/7 – 15

Posted in Concerts, Music, Uncategorized on July 4, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

Waking up fairly late after out late endeavors, we began the day with a bit of a roadtrip to IKEA, since apparently, the most absolute Swedish experience is to go to IKEA. Michelle was picking up a shelf as well, and me some fake flowers so I guess it was okay. Watching Nathan walking around IKEA in awe made it completely worth it, and we even end up having lunch in the food court, to make it ultra-Swedish, you know?

After we were done (it took some time!) we got home, had a glass of cold cola and then headed over to Mariebergsskogen to catch Hardcore Superstar live on the free-of-charge festival Putte i Parken. Despite us getting there only like 20 minutes before it started, we got really got spots behind our friends Linette and Angelina (haven’t met either of them in ages!) and a few minutes later Jennie, Jonny and Jimmie joined up as well.

On point, the guys walked on stage and started off the show with “Need No Company” and followed up strongly with “Last Forever” and “My Good Reputation”. Seriously, have I told you how much I love that song?

150704hcsskarlstad2

“Touch the Sky” was fired off before it was time for our personal big moment of the day, “Last Call for Alcohol”. While the song is awesome, what has made it “our” moment is probably when we invented the idea of dancing Jenka to the song, and we’ve tried to do so on almost every HCSS show we’ve ever been to. We decided against it this time though, it wasn’t any pressure or such, but we didn’t really… feel any vibe? It’s always more fun if people join in, you know.

But aside that, the band absolutely killed it and have done so far. “Cry Your Eyes Out” and “Someone Special” came after this followed by “Wild Boys” and “Liberation”.

Oh. You wanna know something? All throughout the show, this little boy, maybe five-six years old? He kept coming back and forth during the show and every time I saw him I made either Jennie or Nathan move the front row spots in order to allow him to see better. The second or third time I did this, he turned around and hugged me! PRECIOUS! I told him that of course should he be up front! and he was so happy.

About the band, I’m not really sure what to say about them. I mean, most people reading my blog has seen then, and if they haven’t… It’s a shame. Jocke Berg is really in the league of good frontmen, you know, the league of Corey Taylor and Erik Grönwall. If it’s anyone who knows how to get a crowd going, it’s him. This band is so ridiculously good live that even if you tried to find something bad, you can’t.

150704hcsskarlstad5

“Don’t Mean Shit” was next song, and they wrapped up the set with the lovely “Run to your Mama”. I love that they have included this song in the setlist. I absolutely love it.

They left the stage and of course returned, and for a split moment it felt like they were gonna do “We Don’t Need a Cure”, a song I never understood why they never did live, but started off with “Moonshine”. Not that I actually mind, “Moonshine” is fucking fantastic.

“We Don’t Celebrate Sundays” and “Above The Law” wrapped up the entire set of this show for the day.

It was a good show. As good as it can get, so thank you, Hardcore Superstar for this show, and thank you for giving Nathan a good first memory of you. This was his first show, or actually, he was barely aware of HCSS prior to this, and now they got themselves a couple of new fans. (Him and Jennie)

After this, we headed home bouncing down the streets singing “Moonshine” and I got ready for work.

Thanks for this awesome day, people!

Alice Cooper @ Gröna Lund, Stockholm, Sweden 3/7 – 15

Posted in Concerts, Music, Uncategorized with tags , on July 3, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

So, around ten this morning we started our outbound journey to Stockholm and Gröna Lund to once again see God himself on stage, and for Nathan to see Alice Cooper and Glen Sobel, his drumhero.

After having lunch at Subway we headed over to Gröna Lund and began with showing Nathan the stage to really get it through his head – we were seeing Alice Cooper, and he couldn’t believe his eyes. We grabbed an ice cream each, and while doing so, we decided that we should first of all, probably buy the posters right away so we didn’t need to bother worry with that, and second of all… we are at an amusement park. That has a funhouse… I’m not going to Boda Borg until Friday so….

Of course, we had a go at it. I was really worried about the steps up front, because last time I did them, I failed miserably, but on the same time… These are the kind of things I push myself to do, so following two steps behind Nathan, I took the steps. It was almost a disaster, seeing Nathan almost fell onto me and I had to tell Michelle to stay back in order not to cause a domino effect, but eventually we got up with a heartrate WAY too fast. After this, it was all fun and games with spinning rooms and wheels and uneven floors. I love these kind of houses.

nathanmichelle

After a round in the funhouse we picked up popcorn and crisps in order to get some salt in this heat, and sat and just chatted before the big event of the night was about to happen. After this, we headed to the stage and got decent spot in the back of the… well, place before the stage.

Right on time, 20.00, he entered the stage with “Hello Hooray”, to my big surprise! I admit, I was expecting it to be the same show as he had on Graspop, but oy vey did he surprise me! And to make it even better, he followed suit with one of my personal favorites – “House of Fire”. Yeah, this was gonna be a good night.

150307gronanalice1

He followed suit with “No More Mr Nice Guy” and “Under My Wheels” before it was time for the, a bit cheeky, “I’ll Bite Your Face Off”.

This was followed by “Billion Dollar Babies” with the money as usual, “Lost In America”, “Hey Stoopid”, “Dirty Diamonds” with the necklaces… and finally it was time for probably one of my favorite moments on Alice Cooper shows, especially nowadays.

“Welcome To My Nightmare”

150703gronanalice3

HE EVEN BROUGHT HIS SNAKE. Really, like I said on Graspop, the only thing I’m missing right now is the bloody dancers. And it will be perfect. But you know, this will really do!

This was followed by “Go to Hell” before the next surprise was put out… and seriously…

“He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)”.

Like, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS SONG. And hearing it live, everytime, it… I can’t even describe it to you? He, as well as Lordi, brought Jason and everything. Of course, the badass chick beat Jason down and started hunting Alice’s band instead.

Right after this was done, Alice put on a policehat, and even though my gut and heart told me “this is it! This is Wicked Young Man! It’s back!” I didn’t dare to hope too much… but then he started marching in pace with a very, VERY familiar guitar riff.

It’s back. My favorite Alice Cooper song, “Wicked Young Man” is fucking back people. Oh god, how do I even explain the big deal this is to you?! Ahh.

Right after this, it was time for another top moment of the show – “Feed My Frankenstein”.

150703gronanalice4

I always love the theatrical numbers a little more than the non-theatrical. It adds to it, you know?

“Ballad of Dwight Fry” followed with the creepy nurse pulling her shit on him, forcing them to have their occasional dance that ends in nothing but pain, but what can you do?

150703gronanalice5

Of course, the mandatory cutting-the-head off followed as well as “I Love The Dead” with the crewmember running around with Alice Coopers head.

After this, they pulled Alice out on a hospital bed, covered with a sheet, and when the nurse was about to check underneath, Alice rose up and a voice, presumably “God” was talking to him about how he had cheated death again, and it made me remember Sweden Rock. It was the medley.

150703gronanalice6

And I was right. Out came the tombstones for Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Keith Moon and Alice pulled off the covers and tributes to the late musicians. It’s something very special seeing an icon like Alice doing this. Paying tribute to other successful and famous musicians. I don’t know how to put it to words, it’s just… very dear to me you know?

150703gronanalice7

The covers included songs as “Break On Through (To the other side)”, “Revolution”, “Foxy Lady” and “My Generation”.

The medley was followed by the classic “I’m Eighteen” before wrapping it up with “Poison”.

Before we knew it, the band came back, the bubbles started and the schoolbells were ringing.

“Schools Out”.

What a party that song is. It’s the perfect wrap up, especially with the adding of “Another Brick in The Wall”, and the baloons and all the confetti and what not. It’s really the perfect ending, of a perfect night.

150703gronanalice2

Seriously, Thank you. ALL OF YOU. Nita, Ryan, Alleysan, Glen, Tommy and Chuck. You are the bomb, all of you. Queen and kings of the world. I love you all.

After this, we tried to leave the park, but to our dismay some stupid idiot had put their key in OUR locker and therefore, it screwed with our chances of getting our stuff out, Gladly, the staff helped us out fairly quickly and we could get going. Quick visit to McDonalds and then running off to Cityterminalen and catching our bus home.

It was our first time trying out a new bus service… AND THE BUSES. So much legspace, so comfortable leatherseats, I didn’t even know what to say or do? Two electricity sources, it was like… I love Swebus, but Nettbuss… I felt like a princess! Oh my god.

Thank you all, Michelle, Nathan, Robert, Gröna Lund, Alice Cooper + band for this amazing evening. I love you all.

So, like I told you all, Nathan arrived last night, but it wasn’t until today that I got a chance to actually meet him again after all this time. Said and done, Michelle and Nathan took the car here, we went and bought pizza and went up a hill with way too many bugs and snakes for our liking and had a nice dinner accompanied by Lexxi the CD player and some of our favorite records.

Started the evening off with “The Arockalypse” (was supposed to be .5, but I had forgotten the actual CD at home) and in the midst of the evening we had, quite the surprise for Nathan, to say the least.

I told him that we had planned to go see someone tomorrow, implying we would meet someone, and he asked us who, and I asked Michelle to take up her phone and show him who we would see.

And when he saw the picture, he LITERALLY dropped his jaw, stopped whatever he was doing and was completely speechless.

Who did we show him?

Just this little fella:

You see, I wasn’t sure if I was gonna get time off from work, and once it was said and done that I’d be able to go, we decided to make it a surprise for Nathan instead of just telling him. It was the start of a great night, where we went up and down roads collecting bottles together and later going to bed preparing for the next days endeavors.

The Sims Challenge Day 5

Posted in 30 Day The Sims Challenge, The Sims, Uncategorized on July 1, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

What about your favourite Maxis-made individual Sim?

For this one, I’m gonna go straight for The Sims 1 alone since it’s the only game where I ever cared about playing Maxis made sims, but I always liked Claire, the lady who lives in the blue/yellow house a bit down on the map and she has a couple of dogs. You get her in Unleashed obviously.

Aside her, like I said, I never really cared a lot for pre-made families and sims, since half the joy lies in making the ultimate sim to reach your goals with.

Ok so, it feels like I’m doing nothing these days but working, playing, working and working and some more working, but what can you do? It’s what you have to do in order to keep up with the lifestyle that we have.

But, aside all the working, there are some sunshine – tomorrow is the day Nathan, the mindblowing amazing every so awesome Monstermaniac we met in Southampton and Brighton is coming here to Sweden for a week to hang out. Missed him SOOO much since the Lordi shows, and I’m so happy he’s coming. Can’t wait to see him again.

But before that, more working. Baah.
