Wiihoo guys! So today it arrived: My Serious Black fanbox. Haven’t been waiting for this one for forever, only like, two days unlike the Kitchen Box from Lordi. I was so excited when I got the text this morning I’ve been walking around giggling all day just wanting to dig into it, but I had to finish a couple of schoolassignments – WHICH I HAVE NOW. Good on me.

And also. While trying to book the flighttickets to SAS, which ended up being more like SAS taking the money and not giving us tickets, it’s a good thing it came. Or else there would have been a massacre or two. Anyhow:

DSC09547

So here it is! This is the box in all it’s glory. So what is really inside of it? Well first of all:

DSC09550

The album itself of course! This is the limited edition with three bonus tracks I haven’t listened to yet, but soon soon I tell you!

DSC09552

So what is this? Well first of all, it’s a merchandise pass. Means that, if I want to, I get 10% when buying their merch at their show. The card is a Certificate of Authencity, same thing that was in Lordi’s box. And then three picks from each of the string bending members! LOVE IT.

DSC09554

THIS THIS THIS! Remember the old idol cards you’d have when you were younger? THEY ARE FUCKING BACK. And they are signed too, that was QUITE a surprise actually, I had expected them to just be plain! But nope, not here! LOVE IT.

DSC09556DSC09559

And the last thing in the box: The Shirt!

So, I went with a size Medium shirt naturally, since it was the smallest one available. And… maybe it’s me who’ve been wearing too many girlies for the last couple of years, but seriously, IT’S HUGE! It’s like a tent? I could bring this to the festival and live in it? And I had even thought about taking a larger size so I could make a dress out of it… Well, that sure wasn’t necessary! We’ll see what happens with this one.

Well, that was that… I hope we are luckier when we talk to SAS tomorrow so we can get this damned trip booked THIS YEAR.

REVIEW: Orden Ogan – Ravenhead

Posted in CDs, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on January 15, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

People! Orden Ogan is back, three years has passed since their latest release, “To The End” which gained them international success. “More metal, more chorusses, more Orden Ogan” is how vocalist Seeb describes the album and while Seeb is the main contributor to the album, it has had all of the band members involved. Teamwork, if you like.

The album starts off pretty aggressively with the title track, but to my surprise it turned out to be very melodic. I’m going to be honest with you – I was fairly unfamiliar with this band prior to hearing this album, so I excepted it to be a lot heavier than it was. This isn’t anything bad though, as you know, I love power metal more than pretty much anything.

I think the album is pretty good – or perhaps decent. There’s a few tracks that stands out quite a lot for me – the bombastic “F.E.V.E.R” and “Sorrow Is Your Tale” where our ever so loved Joacim Cans happen to guest sing on. Aside them two tracks, I think the album is pretty even. Not bad, not at all, but also… nothing amazing, you know? Nothing new. What I do like a lot with this band, as a band, is the vocals. Seeb has one of the more interesting voice I’ve heard in the genre, which I’d say defines the band a little extra.

Production-wise, however, it’s  pretty solid. Mixed by Seeb himself and mastered by Dennis Köhne it’s a polished product that is given to us, the only thing I can remark on would the vocals which I find a tad bit low, but it’s just me.

While this is a good album, it still leaves me wanting just a little bit more, despite it being very promising. It’s like, ALMOST there.

REVIEW: Serious Black – As Daylight Breaks

Posted in CDs, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on January 14, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

You may ask me, Sara, what is Serious Black? Well, I’ll tell you. Serious Black is the result of musicians from various successful metal bands coming together as one – but unlike most all-star bands, this is an actual band rather than a project. The idea for the band formed during a backstage talk in Spain during 2013, and after if’s and but’s they got together in the studio in Munich in January 2014 and started working on material, which ran real smooth and already after seven days together they had the foundation of what would become “As Daylight Breaks”.

The album is 11 tracks long and… how do I describe it. Imagine you taking your favorite songs from various different bands, and put them together as on a “Best of” album, and you get this album. Aside this isn’t a best of album by various bands.

We are talking about 11 powerful, melodic and at times EPIC songs. Like, first of all, we have the pretty raw and intense opener that is “I Seek No Other Life” – I can’t help but somehow think of the formation of this band when I hear “The time and place must be now”. The intensity and, how do I say it, seriousness in “Sealing My Fate”, the epicness that is the title track – sweet, serene and later on bombastic power-ballad. And this is only mentioning a few of the amazing songs on this album – if I was to go through each and every song, this would be a very long review.

A song I NEED to bring a little extra attention to though, is “High And Low”. This is the single, but it’s also the best song on the album, for a change. Normally I don’t fall for the singles, but this one… I can’t even. I’m literally sitting here, listening to it right now and swearing over the fact I won’t be seeing them any time soon.

This is a good production – solid material, fantastic production technicality wise and just a damn good start. I don’t know what else to say, but let me just say this: This album is so good, I was pulled over by the cops while driving. Headbanging deluxe!

Into The Darkness

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized on January 5, 2015 by Sara Hammerzmith

So, I did go to the dentist today, sadly, not a lot was accomplished more than that I’ll have a tooth removed this Friday, which scares the hell out me, AND bums me a bit since we planned to go to Boda Borg on Saturday, which is a no can do because of that, BUT. No darkness without a little light. After being at the dentist and being scared and worked up my dad and I went down to Knastret, the best record store in the world, and I came out with two new albums to my little collection.

DSC09513

DSC09507

Both albums bought was by the Canadian group Kittie. I haven’t been able to STOP listening to “Spit” ever since I got it, so it was “time” (even though it was just a week ago) to extend the collection with two more CD’s. These are their second and third album respectively. I’ve just listened through them a couple of times briefly, but I REALLY like it! It’s a tad more aggressive yet polished than “Spit”, but damn I like it. These are some bad ass ladies, that’s for sure.

I kinda feel that I’m changing directions in musical interests, or perhaps I’m just extending it. I’m not sure which it is – but I never thought I’d listen to bands like Kittie, Butcher Babies or SlipKnot a year ago. I’m not sure if this is good or bad. Good for my heart and mind and soul, but bad for my wallet, haha! Good thing I work pretty much all the time.

REVIEW: Bloodbound – Stormborn

Posted in CDs, Music, Uncategorized on November 30, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

It’s been two years since we last heard of Swedish Powermetallers in Bloodbound and finally they are back with new material. According to the pressrelease, the band have taken their HammerFall/Iron Maiden inspired sound with touches of Sabaton and Powerwolf but taken to next level.

And that is pretty much exactly what the album is. I’m going to be honest with you – when the album first popped into my mailbox, I wasn’t familiar with Bloodbound at all, which is why the review is a little delayed. But – the first thing that popped into my mind when listening to the album was precisely what they said above – HammerFall with Bruce Dickinson on vocals, with elements of Sabaton.

However, it might at times be a little too Sabaton-y. I recognize a lot of the material off the album from Sabaton songs, and I even found myself singing the pre-chorus to “Gott Mit Uns” in one of the songs, and I hear “Konungens Likfärd” in the chorus in the same song and I’m not sure what to make of that. I do like the childrens choir though.

Aside these things – I do like the album a whole lot. I love the bombastic elements, the speed in the verses and the themes of the lyrics. The epicness in the arrangements and writings satisfy me a lot. Especially songs as “Stormborn”, “When All Lights Fail” and “When the Kingdom will Fall”. The strong content of the rest of the album makes it easier to overlook the almost-plagiarism song. Good job!

If you, like me, like bombastic epic powermetal, this album should be right down your alley.

Olly Murs – Never Been Better

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized on November 21, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Today is the day people! Olly Murs third album is finally hitting the shelves, and I’ve finally got it here! Ok, technically it came yesterday, but I had some other things to talk about. What am I even going to say guys, I’ve waited for this album so long I mean, sure, it wasn’t longer than I waited for the stupid fanbox, but long enough since I pre-ordered it… a while ago.

mursan 017

First of all, the cover of the album is similar to Sabaton’s most recent albums. A book. I was quite surprised to find that he’d make a book, but you know, why not!

Well, what can I say about the album? It’s very Olly. A good mixture of both previous albums elevated to the next level, essentially. Tons of feel good songs such as “Did you Miss me?”, “Up” and the single “Wrapped Up”, the more big epic love song such as “Beautiful To Me”, the more serene slower songs such as “Nothing without You”. Light, cheerful melodies cut off with some deeper and slower ones. The songs are well arranged and the writing is just perfect. This is pretty much everything I’d ever expect in an Olly record.

God, I love this album. But then again, I love all of Olly’s albums, interestingly enough. This will be blasted  A LOT here at home. This was well worth the wait.

Danger Danger – Danger Danger

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized on November 19, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

So, most of you people reading my blog knows what a sucker I am for 80’s hair metal music. It should come to no surprise for either of you that this one, Danger Danger’s “Danger Danger” released back in 1989 is one of my favorite records to date.

dangerdanger

I’m not even sure where to start with this album. I just love everything about it. It’s a fine mixture between smooth melodies such as “Don’t Walk Away” or “Feels Like Love” together with songs with big choruses “Bang Bang” and “Rock America” and more bold songs as “Naughty Naughty” and “Saturday Nite”. And how can we forget about “Under The Gun”. Keyboard-override, melodyline that sticks to your brain and memorable lyrics. I guess we can say that the song selection is pretty fine for this one. The musicians are flawless – the execution of the songs are perfect, arrangements, can’t say much about them and Ted Poley is absolutely killing it with the vocals.

If you want some high quality 80’s hair metal, this is the album you can NEVER EVER forget in your collection. I’m not sure if this band ever got the recognition they deserve, but they still remain big favorites among the fans, that’s for sure.

Hell’s Kitchen Box – Lordi

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized with tags on November 11, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

SO PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE.

FIRST OF ALL – SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT

After months of waiting (I preordered this thing in September) and some more waiting, and trying, and hoping, and lost patience and a few angermanagements lessons later, the box is finally here! AT LAST! See, I was working this morning at a store, and on the way home I got the text message I could pick it up at the post office, so naturally that’s the first things I do.

scareforce 015

God, the anticipation when opening this was beyond what anyone could believe. I had been a little anxious about this one, since it had only said “Scare Force One CD” on the order, and not the fanbox. But it was all in vain, obviously, as this couldn’t possibly be anything but the fanbox!

scareforce 032

THIS WAS THE CONTENT PEOPLE. And yes – When I saw that the limited edition of “Zombilation” was available as well I could not miss the oppurtunity! So, that leaves only Scarchives being the missing piece in my collection.

So.. the fanbox. Where do I begin! First of all, the box is fucking amazing. It’s basically a lunchbox, with all these details on all the sides! The box alone is so beautiful I might cry. Maybe it’s the long waiting and all, but damn.

But then… when opening the box… The first thing I came across was the sheet with Hella’c Cupcakes. YUM! I’m going to try to bake them as soon as possible, and then I’ll tell you what I thought.

scareforce 054

The second thing was the apron. And MY GOD PEOPLES. This apron is so much more beautiful in real life than it was on the picture! Love it. It will sure as hell be used A LOT!

Apron

The next thing in the box was the CD. And you know, I was a little bummed it being a digipack, since I prefer jewelcase above anything, BUT. This one intrigued me. It wasn’t made out of the papery thing other digipacks are made it, but rather some hard plastics. I’ve been sitting for hours just caressing it and being fascinated with it. Way to go!

merlordi 004

Beneath the CD awaited the poster. It was perhaps a little bit smaller than I had expected it to be, HOWEVER – I did not see the double side thing coming! Really like the fact we got like two posters in one.

merlordi 021 merlordi 022

And after that, one of the thing I was most excited for, was the illustrated lyrics! It’s basically a comic book that illustrates all the lyrics as their own stories. I sat for a good hour or so going through the whole thing, and I LOVED IT! So worth it.

merlordi 024 merlordi 025

The last thing in the box is the certificate of Authencity, which much to my joy turned out to be not just aplain certificate, but also more like a postcard of Lordi. Nice.

merlordi 027merlordi 026

Overall, I’m beyond satisfied with this box. I do really think we got a lot of good things for that little money, and I’ve even found myself going back and forth the whole day toying with it.

scareforce 069

My Lordishelf feels somewhat more complete now. Ahh.

Welcome home, Hell’s Kitchen Box.

Non Stop Rock n Roll – Wig Wam

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized on November 8, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

So, a few days ago I was challenged by one of my friends to write a list about my top ten favorite bands, which I somewhat transformed into a ten most influential bands instead. Maybe I’ll take the list and put it up here and write a little bit more about every band… Anyway. One of the bands that are natural on the list is Wig Wam, which brought this album to my mind.

lalala 030

Non-Stop Rock n Roll“, released in 2010 and is Wig Wam’s third full-lenght album.

I always used to say that whenever Wig Wam makes an album, they basically do a remix of themselves. Like, the original was “667 – The Neighbour of the Beast” / ” Hard to be a Rock n Roller” (these two are essentially the same record, the later one having an addition of ‘In My Dreams’). When they released “Wig Wamania” in 2006 it was basically the same album – but improved.  You can easily see it – “Mine All Mine” turned into “A Rock n Roll Girl Like You” and “Tell me Where To Go” turned into “At The End of The Day”, “Car-Lyle turned into “Dare-Devil Heat” and so on. Look yourselves, and you’ll see it.

However, with this in mind, I had pretty  high expectations when they said they’d enter the studio. I expected it to be Wig Wamania taken to the next level, if it was even possible?

And it was. By many, many miles. It succeeded all my expectations, and I consider it being a bit of an underrated album. It has this in your face and bombastic opening in “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” moving onto the more heavier “Walls Come Down”, and then into the more partylike “Wild One” and “C’mon Everybody”.

To top it off even better, they got Flash (bass) and Teeny (guitarr) sing a song each. Flash had already during the Wig Wamania era been given his own song, “Flying High” so I was expected to hear him again, which we did in “Chasing Rainbows”. Teeny, on the other hand, was quite a surprise. He sings on “Still I’m Burning” and not only does it sound good, it’s one of the best track so on the whole album.

But – I wanna shed some extra light on two other songs. The two songs, that in my opinion, is the best on the whole album. “Man in the Moon” (compare to Bygone Zone & Out of Time) and “Rocking Through My Heart” (compare to A Rock n Roll Girl Like You & Mine all Mine).  I’ve always been weak for the Mine All Mine / Rock n Roll Girl duo, so it’s no surprise to me that my favorite of the record would be “Rocket”. Man in the Moon on the other hand… The lyrics are absolutely beautiful, but what captures me the most about this song is the whole package, the arrangement. The soft, serene song together with these lyrics… this is one of the songs I can listen to on repeat without any difficulties.

So yes. This album, I want to warmly recommend, as long as you’re into 80’s kind of hairmetal. This is the best work of these men, and there isn’t a song on this album I don’t like listening to. And that’s what marks a good album, people.

Oh wow, this is fun.. It appears this CD is no longer in the making, so the only place to get it is at Amazon right here.

REVIEW: The Heart of the Matter – TRIOSPHERE

Posted in CDs, Uncategorized with tags on November 6, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Triosphere is a Norwegian power/progressive metal band formed back in 2004 by vocalist Ida Haukland and guitarist Marius Silver. The band has previously released two albums – “Onwards” and “The Road Less Travelled” and are after four years and many big tours back with new material, in the shape of “The Heart of the Matter”.

When turning on the album we’re greeted with “My Fortress” which opens calmly with some acoustic guitars triggering up before it almost explodes into the aggressive guitars and drums and strong chorus.. If the rest of the album was going to be only half as good as this, I’d be much happy. And it was. We got “Breathless” which opens aggressively only to calm down for the verse and moving on to a strong chorus with amazing lyrics, moving yet heavy “The Sphere” and wrapping it all up with the serene “Virgin Ground”, a song that almost leaves me speechless.

So, without exagerating, I guess we can all agree that this is one of the most promising band out of Norway as we speak. The whole album is pure joyfulness and ease. I’m not sure if that is even the correct word, so you understand the point. The whole album is filled with heavy, progressive riffs which moves into strong, melodic and wonderful choruses. And I promise you – you will have at least one of these choruses on your mind after listening to the album.

One track that stands out for me a lot, is “The Heart’s Dominion”. The heaviness of the musical arrangement together with the big chantings for the opening and the aggressiveness in Ida’s voice in the chorus, the lyrics… I guess I need say no more. This, together with “Breathless” are easily my favorites on this album.

Productionwise this album was very well done. The songwriting for this album has taken a big leap forward since their last album, “The Road Less Travelled” and it’s a lot more polished and wellcomposed this time around. The arrangements of the album is very well-done so I really have nothing to complain about. This is the best album the band has done in their career so far, and the hour you’ll spend listen to these 12 wellcomposed tracks will be an hour well spent.

4/5
Best tracks: Breathless & The Heart’s Dominion. Can’t choose one!
