Day 10 – A song that makes you fall asleep and feel relaxed

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on July 28, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Ok. There are waaaay too many songs that I do this with, and normally I get relaxed after waiting for a little while, BUT. I’ll bring up one song right here.

Rainmaker” by Danish singer Emmelie de Forest. Most people may remember her because of her winning Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with “Only Teardrops”, a song I DO love, but not at all, not even remotely close, to how much I love the theme for Eurovision 2014, which is the song posted above, “Rainmaker”.

It’s a bit contradictory to say this is the song that helps me fall asleep, as this song ALSO is a song that makes me dance silly raindances, but, when I DO lay down to go to bed or whatever, this is usually the song to turn to. It’s a sweet tune with some amazing vocal arrangements, percussionwork and most importantly – rain. There is nothing in this world that is as soothing and the sound of rain drops.

So basically. “Rainmaker”. Both a song to dance to, but also a soothing song to help you relax. Or at least it does for me.

Day 09 – A song that you can dance to

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on July 25, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

A song that you can dance to. I can dance to pretty much any song. It’s all about finding the rythm in the song you are dancing to. Be it Lady GaGa, Beyoncé, HammerFall, Slipknot or Mayhem. It’s all about the rythm. But, I did manage to narrow down to one specific song, that may not be all too obvious to the general audience.

7734” by Sabaton. This song was originally released on “Metalizer” / “Fist for Fight“, but made a return on this years release, “Heroes“. And boy, am I thankful. What you may not know, is that “7734” happens to be not only a fairly good song, but also one of my all time favorite songs by Sabaton. I usually call it my big three – “The Art of War” (song), “Carolus Rex”(song) and “7734”.

The version posted above is the “Metalizer” version, and I don’t exactly think this version makes the song justice, but I failed to find a “Heroes” one, other than on Spotify. Regardless of version, this is a song I for real dance to whenever it comes on. This is the type of songs that pumps your blood you know, that makes you wanna move your body. Or how to put it.

Maybe it’s not your cup of tea, maybe it’s not your first choice for a dancetune, but I swear. If you put this on I’ll dance. I’ll dance lindyhop. On the table.

While screaming double seven thirty-four.

Day 08 – A song that you know all the words to

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on July 12, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Ok, so this one should be fairly easy right? But it also felt TOO easy. I mean, I could take any average Sabaton or Lordi song really, so I sat down and checked through some REAL old records to see if I could find any gems, and I came across this song.

Något som kan hända” by Mathias Holmgren (click here for the English version). I’m not sure exactly HOW old this song is, where I heard it, and when, but I do know I absolutely LOVE this song, and despite not hearing this song for so, ever so many years, I still remember all the words to it, and I even remember most of the English lyrics.

What can I say about this song though… I mean. It should come as no surprise for people that I do love other kind of music than metal, and music like Mathias is a bit of a guilty pleasure. And this particular tune… Big favorite when I was younger. Me and my friend would blast this song every now and then, and I think this is the reason I still to this day remember the lyrics.

Bet you didn’t see that one coming, huh?

Day 07 – A song that reminds you of a certain event

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on July 9, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Alright, I had to sit down for a small moment and think a bit, and perhaps this isn’t as much of an “event”, but I still want to bring it up right here and now.

Alright, so this is “Fat Girl” by one of my favorite bands, Steel Panther. Why this song?

Well, there was this one thing that happened in Denmark in 2012. Michelle and I were doing our thing, travelling from Oslo in Norway to Copenhagen in Denmark to catch Steel Panther live for the 2nd time on the tour, the day after each other. We had no place to stay or anything, so naturally, after we landed the first thing we did was to head to McDonalds to eat, and then to the arena, Amager Bio.

We came pretty early, and the tourbus was already there and everything, but we were first in line. After a little while, we decided to listen to some music. And what music to listen to prior to a Panther gig? Panther music, of course. So there we were, enjoying some Panthermusic and particularly, “Fat Girl”. I was trying to tell Michelle something, which she didn’t hear, so she decided to pause the music, and did so right before the verse began.

What happens? WELL. Turns out MICHAEL STARR, MICHAEL FUCKING STARR, was behind us, and just as we stopped, he continued singing the verse. And ended with a “That’s a GREAT SONG!” and giving us thumbs up before continuing. Both me and Michelle went pretty much ASHLDASJDLAJDLAJS.

Like, guys, come on. How. Often. Does. This. Happen? Not often, NOT EVER.

Later the same night, Michael caught up with us again after the show and thanked us for waiting in line for so long and that they really appreciated that we would do this for them.

And this, my friends, is one of the many reasons I love this band.

Day 06 – A song that reminds you of somewhere

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on July 4, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

This one had me thinking for a little while, as I knew this had to be a Lordi song. I’ve had many great moments with my monstermaniacs, and this is the song that makes me think of it.

Hulking Dynamo” by Lordi. Lordi needs no further introduction to anyone reading my blog, but yeah. This is a song that Michelle and I blasted on our way home from Skogsröjet.

Skogsröjet marks many things. It was the first time in four years, FOUR YEARS, Lordi was back in Sweden for a gig, something we’ve been waiting for for ages. This was also the first time we got to interview Mr Lordi, something that had been postponed since February actually, when he was planned to do a promo-visit to Sweden, which never happened. Gladly, we were offered to do it at Röjet instead, and so we did! The interview itself turned out amazing.

But the most amazing part about Skogsröjet wasn’t the gig or the interview. It was to be gathered with all the Swedish monstermaniacs that are still active today, queueing all day, and most importantly. Amazingly enough ALL OF US had managed to win the meet&greet contest, so not only did we hang out together, watch the gig together, no, we even got to meet the band together!

It was one of the best nights of my life, as it always are when it comes to Lordi. But this one, along Lichtenfels are the best ones, ever.

Day 05 – A song that reminds you of someone

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on June 27, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

Wow. This was a tricky one at first, but then it hit me.

Always” by Erasure.

You know, this song became somewhat of a big deal with the Robot Unicorn attack and everything, but it became so much more to me. This was the song that would forever be The Awesome Threesome’s song. This song reminds me of the lunatics Thomas and Martine.

awesomee

This picture is from our adventures in France. You know that epic Lordi gig? Oh yes. I don’t even know what to write. We had some CRAZY times together with all our get-togethers we’d have in Oslo at Martine’s, and of course this gig. The presidential suite. Ghostbusters. I can’t even name all the things.

Thanks for all the memories guys. You will always be the first thing I think of whenever I hear always.

Day 04 – A Song that makes you Sad

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on June 25, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

This one was easy. Really easy, strangely enough.

I have to go with a live version of this song, as it doesn’t appear on Youtube as a CD version.

Bygone Zone (Acoustic Leger uten Grenser version) by Norwegian band Wig Wam. As you know, they are my first favorite band ever, so it’s kinda special that they would appear here.

This song was released as a part of a beneficial campaign for Médecins sans frontières, and the lyrics had been a bit altered, but it was mostly the epic exectuion of the song that made me love it so much at first (this gets lost in the live version, sadly!)

But what makes this song so sad isn’t really the song or the lyrics itself, it’s actually my story to it. This song was released somewhere around the time my first favorite horse passed away. Her name was Pickles, she was 18 years old at the passing. Blind on both eyes. Still to this day I haven’t found a horse that has replaced her. Lady Axa do a good job, but just not like that. This song became the song I somewhat related to when she passed, the song I played over and over, the song that you know… understood. That explained the whole thing. Or how to put it.

Still to this day, eight years later, I cannot listen to this song without tearing up like crazy and thinking about the most beautiful horse that has ever walked this planet.

Rest in Peace, Pickles.

Day 03 – A Song that makes you Happy

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on June 21, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

This one had me thinking for a little while. I’m sitting here playing with my chips, learning a few new tricks, being irritated at the moment and trying to figure out what song makes me happy.

A lot of songs makes me happy. But what song is that one song that just… do THAT you know? After a few if’s and but’s, and a Olly Murs CD spinning in the background, it was settled.

Dance With Me Tonight by british artist Olly Murs. This was a song I chased for so long, as I heard it the first time in one of Disney’s “Re-Micks” where they use old Mickey Mouse clips and put it together with a song. I remember how much I loved hearing this song come on, and how much I wanted to find it and the artist. I used TrackID on my phone, without any hits.

A few months later, I realized I could try searching for “Dance with me tonight remicks” on youtube, said and done, and I found the song and the artist. And I’m so glad I did. Introducing Olly Murs in my life is probably one of the best things I have ever done, and the concert I saw with him last year is still one of my most prized one.

To return to the point of the entry, this song ALWAYS, regardless what has happened, cheers me up. If I’m sad, or if I’m happy, yeah, you get it. The song makes me wanna dance, it makes me wanna love, it makes me wanna play, it literally brings me alive like crazy.

There are a lot of songs out there that makes me happy. But not like this one. I have no bad memories to this song, no guilt feelings, nothing.

Olly Murs in my heart.

Day 02 – Your Least Favorite Song

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on June 19, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

In lack of better things to write, here it comes! Part 2.

Day 2 – Your Least Favorite song.

There are songs I don’t like. Quite a few. And I could easily go into saying I dislike Miley Cyrus “We Can’t Stop” or Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” or whatever, but on the same time, it feels a bit easy. A little to easy to just go, yeah, hey, I dislike these songs! So I’m gonna go with this.

Sincerely With Love – Lordi

I bet you never expected to see me put a Lordi song on here, did you? Well. Here we go.

The beat in this song; the riff, the music, is all perfect. It’s very promising. The whole song was promising. Until the singing started. I tell you. When I heard this song the very first time, we literally had to pause and rewind, because we weren’t sure what the hell we actually heard.

First of all, while I don’t mind swearing in a song, I was well surprised to hear Mr Lordi curse in a song. I know I know – he curses in “Schizo Doll” at one point, I know. But it still felt very odd. And the rest of the lyrics for this song feels very off as well. I can’t say I know to 100% what the song is about (at least I’m not gonna say I do) but it’s not… what I would perhaps expect from Lordi. Not at all.

But what really made me dislike this song, was what it has become. It has become a song that Lordi fans uses to bully other Lordifans with. If a Lordifan doesn’t agree with what you say, they aim this song right at you. And where are Lordifans gonna turn, when they are being bullied by the fans of the band, with a song from the band?

Think about that for a second.

Day 1 – Your Favorite Song

Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Uncategorized on June 13, 2014 by Sara Hammerzmith

So, in lack of better things to blog about, I figured I’d slowly start doing this “30 Day Song Challenge” in order to well, fill out the blog with what might be a bit more interesting stuff than just me rambling.

So, Day 1 – Your Favorite Song.

This should come as no surprise to anyone reading my blog.

Don’t Be Afraid of Your Dreams by british popduo Go West. This song was featured on “A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master”, in the end credits. I had originally gotten the movie only because of Vinnie Vincent Invasions, rather short, appearance, and little did I know it would guide the way to the song that would be the closest to my heart.

What I love so much about this song is basically everything. I started listening to VVI when I was around 15-16, and this song, despite being written for a movie about a dream-demon, it’s still empowered me like hell. You can adapt the lyrics to pretty much any situation, and even still to this day I keep telling myself about everthing I’m doubting – “It’s mind over matter, whatever it takes” to make sure not to slow myself down with my negative thoughts.

I guess it’s a bit surprising to most people reading this, as most people know me as a “rocker”, if you like, and to see me choose a popsong as my favorite might be confusing. But this song just has it. Powerful choruses, vocals, compositions and most importantly… powerful lyrics that has since the day I first heard this song, been so important to me, in how I view myself, in how I think about things, in how I act about things.

It taught me not to be afraid of my dreams.
